On March 29th Kermit hosted a Unified Track meet between Monahans and Kermit. It was a perfect day to host the event with plenty of sunshine and no wind. This meet gave our Unified athletes a chance to hone their skills prior to our Area meet, and they performed well for our very first competition. The goal of the Unified Sports and Activities Program is to recognize and offer opportunities for students with and without disabilities to compete in UIL-sanctioned competitions and activities. This is a joint effort between UIL and Special Olympics Texas (SOTX). The philosophy of the program is on competition, simply not on the ability to participate, which teaches participants to work as a team, to follow rules, and to be committed. It is through sports that the students find shared interests and friendships while making profound changes in the lives of students with and without disabilities. The coaches and athletes would like to thank the administration and parents for all their support so far this season and look forward to the AREA competition which will be held on Tuesday, April 4th, at 9 am in Monahans.
KJHS Spring Pictures will be this Thursday, March 30.
