Kermit ISD family. We are aware of ongoing menacing statements being made toward KISD. I have been In contact with local law enforcement and district and campus leadership regarding this issue. At this time, KISD will be conducting classes as scheduled tomorrow. After reviewing all of the factors and information we have at this time, we feel that we have a proactive security plan in place that will assure student and staff safety. Again, we will not allow the actions of of a few individuals to deter us from the important role of educating the children of KISD. If you have any information regarding these online statements, please notify the Kermit Police Department or a member of the KISD leadership team. It is a great day to be a Kermit Yellowjacket and living in the great community of Kermit, Texas. Rodney Schneider, Ed.D

To the Kermit ISD family and community of Kermit.  A few hours ago, we were made aware that the Kermit Police Department was investigating a post being shared on social media threatening students. These posts seem to be circulating throughout the State not just Kermit. This investigation by Chief Ramos and his staff has not shown any connection between this post and any KISD students. There is no credible evidence of a threat made toward our school, students or staff. Although the specific threats made on social media do not have a credible connection with KISD, in light of recent events, in an over abundance of caution, I have decided to implement additional safety protocols at all three campuses.  These safety protocols involve the Kermit Police Department, Winkler County Sheriff’s Department, and the Department of Public Safety. I want to ask all of our parents, students, and citizens to help us end this vicious cycle. If you are aware of any connection to these posts, please contact Chief Ramos or Sheriff Mitchell immediately - If you see something; say something. Although their resources are stretched thin, I want to thank our local law enforcement agencies for their aggressive and proactive approach to keeping our school and students safe.  At this time, we feel there is no credible threat to our students or staff; therefore, school will continue as scheduled.  Again, thank you for your patience and understanding as we take all steps necessary for the safety and well-being of the children of Kermit ISD. Please let my office or a campus administrator know if you are aware of any information regarding threats toward our school, students, or staff.  We will not cower in fear and let petty thugs scare us in our commitment to the academic achievement of KISD students. It is a great day to be a Kermit Yellowjacket and living in the great community of Kermit, Texas.           Rodney Schneider, Ed.D.

To the Kermit ISD family and community of Kermit. Last Friday, we were made aware that the Kermit Police Department was investigating threats made against the high school. The aggressive proactive investigation by our local police revealed no specific evidence of a credible threat at this time. However, since these threats were rumored to involve weapons, and in light of recent events, in an abundance of caution, I decided to implement additional safety protocols at all three campuses. These safety protocols involved the Kermit Police Department, Winkler County Sheriff’s Department, and the Department of Public Safety. There are two reasons a message was not sent out prior to today. First, the threat was not credible enough to warrant such a message. Second, we did not want to tip off bad actors to our security measures. I want to commend and thank our parents and students for their calm approach to this situation. I also want to commend and thank our local law enforcement agencies for their aggressive and proactive approach to keeping our school and students safe. At this time, we feel there is no credible threat to our students or staff; therefore, school will continue as scheduled. If there had been a credible threat, you would have received word through our official notification system Parents Square and/or various social media posts. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding as we take all steps necessary for the safety and well-being. As the saying goes, if you see something; say something. Please let my office or a campus administrator know if you are aware of any information regarding threats toward our school, students, or staff. It is a great day to be a Kermit Yellowjacket and living in the great community of Kermit, Texas. - Dr. Rodney Schneider
